Helldivers 2 continues to dominate headlines following its surprise appearance at Gamescom Opening Night Live, where developer Arrowhead Game Studios announced the game’s expansion to Xbox on August 26 alongside a highly anticipated crossover with Microsoft’s legendary Halo franchise. While excitement for the collaboration is high, fans were caught off guard by the unusually high cost of the new Halo 3: ODST Legendary Warbond — prompting Arrowhead’s CEO to step in with an explanation and tease what’s coming next.
The Halo 3: ODST Warbond Reveal
To mark Helldivers 2’s debut on Xbox, Arrowhead unveiled the Halo 3: ODST Warbond, a content pack inspired by one of Halo’s most iconic spin-offs. The bundle includes the Helljumper and Recon armor sets, along with exclusive weapons, skins, and cosmetics that channel the spirit of Halo’s ODST squad. While the crossover was met with overwhelming enthusiasm, many in the community expressed concern when they saw the price: 1,500 Super Credits, higher than the game’s typical Warbonds.
Arrowhead Addresses the Pricing Controversy
Shortly after the reveal, Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani addressed the community on the game’s official Discord. He clarified that this pricing model does not represent a new standard. Instead, the higher cost applies only to Legendary Warbonds, which are crossover bundles featuring content from third-party IPs rather than original Helldivers creations.
Jorjani explained that the price increase reflects factors such as licensing fees, collaboration costs, and the additional approval process required when working with external franchises. The CEO reassured fans that regular Warbonds would remain priced at 1,000 Super Credits, while the Halo content would remain permanently available in the in-game store. However, he also confirmed that customization of the ODST gear will not be possible due to licensing restrictions.
What Comes After the Halo Warbond?
According to Helldivers 2 community manager Baskinator, the Halo crossover is considered a special event and does not interfere with the game’s standard Warbond release cadence. Regular content packs will continue to roll out every 5–7 weeks, with the next one already in the pipeline. While no official details have been released, Baskinator teased that they have seen the next Warbond and described it as "awesome," sparking speculation within the community that a September launch could be on the horizon.
Helldivers 2’s Growing Universe
The Halo crossover isn’t the only reason players are excited. With the Galactic War constantly evolving and Arrowhead preparing for an influx of new Xbox players, Helldivers 2 is showing no signs of slowing down. Recent leaks have hinted at the arrival of new enemy factions, including Illuminate troops, which could dramatically shake up the game’s combat dynamics. Early leaks suggest units such as a Zealot enemy type, capable of summoning reinforcements and using whip-like weapons to pull players into close combat.
With crossovers, new enemies, and a rapidly growing player base, Helldivers 2 is proving to be one of the most dynamic live-service shooters on the market. While the Halo 3: ODST Legendary Warbond may have sparked debate over pricing, Arrowhead’s transparency and continued content support suggest the game is on track for an even brighter future.
