A new report has surfaced claiming that Sony is preparing to launch a revised model of the PlayStation 5 Pro before the end of September 2025. While fans shouldn’t expect a dramatic overhaul or a slim redesign, the updated hardware appears to follow Sony’s traditional strategy of releasing internal revisions aimed at improving efficiency and reducing production costs.
The PS5 Pro, which debuted in November 2024, has quickly established itself as PlayStation’s most powerful console yet. Featuring a significantly upgraded GPU and the introduction of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) — an AI-driven upscaling technology — the Pro edition promised smoother frame rates, enhanced visual clarity, and optimized performance in supported titles. Despite a few criticisms regarding its €799.99 price point and the lack of a standard disc drive, the system has generally been well received by both players and critics.
Now, according to insider billbil-kun via Dealabs, Sony is preparing to roll out the first internal revision of the PS5 Pro, labeled model CFI-7121. Certification documents filed earlier this year in Japan suggest that this refreshed unit will officially release in Europe on Tuesday, September 30. Externally, the new model is expected to look identical to the current PS5 Pro, ruling out any kind of slim redesign.
Instead, the improvements are likely to be under the hood. The insider speculates that Sony has fine-tuned the hardware for greater energy efficiency, which could mean lower power consumption, reduced heat output, and quieter fan noise. Importantly, the 2TB SSD that shipped with the original PS5 Pro will reportedly remain intact — a welcome decision given that Sony previously downgraded storage capacity in a standard PS5 revision without lowering the retail price.
Price adjustments also appear unlikely, with the new revision expected to stay at €799.99 in Europe. While Sony has yet to confirm whether this updated model will roll out in North America or other regions, past revisions of the base PS5 suggest that gradual worldwide availability is a strong possibility.
Historically, Sony has used console revisions to optimize materials and internal layouts, such as reducing the size of heatsinks, altering motherboard design, or trimming down costly raw materials like copper. These changes typically do not affect performance but help Sony improve profit margins while keeping the product competitive on the market.
For now, fans in Europe can expect the next PS5 Pro revision to arrive by the end of September 2025, with further details likely to surface closer to launch. Whether Sony has any surprises planned alongside this update — such as new accessories or bundles — remains to be seen.
