GTA 6 Pricing Fears Put to Rest as New Survey Suggests $70 Launch Is Optimal

A recent consumer pricing study has brought some relief to fans concerned that Grand Theft Auto 6 could cost more than the standard $69.99 at launch. According to new data, pricing the highly anticipated Rockstar title above that mark could actually reduce total sales revenue — suggesting that the game’s base price is unlikely to exceed $70. 💸

Ever since GTA 6 was officially revealed in late 2023, the gaming community has been buzzing with speculation about how much it would cost. As one of the most expensive games ever developed, industry analysts and fans alike assumed that Take-Two Interactive might use the opportunity to raise the baseline price for AAA games. Some predictions even pointed to $80 or $100 versions being the “new normal.”

However, a new survey conducted by MIDiA Research challenges that assumption. Using a Gabor–Granger pricing model, researchers questioned over 2,000 U.S. consumers to determine the ideal price point for Rockstar’s next blockbuster. The results showed that keeping GTA 6 at a $69.99 entry level would actually maximize revenue — with higher prices leading to noticeable drops in purchase intent.

The Gabor–Granger method works by asking respondents if they would buy a product at a specific price, then adjusting that figure up or down based on their answers. This allows analysts to pinpoint the exact pricing threshold where interest starts to decline. MIDiA’s findings revealed that around 59% of American gamers expressed interest in buying GTA 6, but enthusiasm quickly waned as the hypothetical price rose above $70.

“When a title appeals to both hardcore fans and a mainstream audience, publishers need to find the sweet spot between profitability and accessibility,”
explains Brandon Sutton, gaming industry analyst at MIDiA Research.

Sutton added that it’s likely Take-Two has already performed its own internal analysis and will stick with the $69.99 standard for the base edition. The publisher has previously hinted that GTA 6 will launch in multiple versions — reportedly Standard, Deluxe, and Premium Editions — giving players various ways to engage depending on their budget.

According to a well-known insider, Millie A, the UK pricing for these tiers could range from £69.99 for the Standard Edition to £109.99 for the Premium Edition, which may include early access to GTA 6 Online and exclusive in-game bonuses.

Despite recent rumors of a potential delay pushing the release to late 2026, Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently set for May 26, 2026. If accurate, this would make it the first mainline GTA title since GTA 4 to launch mid-year — though insiders caution that another delay isn’t entirely off the table.

Still, the new research offers good news for fans: even in an era of rising game development costs, GTA 6 probably won’t break the $70 threshold. Considering the immense anticipation surrounding the game, Rockstar seems poised to achieve record-breaking sales without forcing players to pay more than they already expect. 🚗💥
