The team behind Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has shared plans to keep the upcoming fighting game alive well into the next generation of consoles — news that PlayStation fans will likely welcome. First announced during the PlayStation State of Play on June 4, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is a joint effort between Marvel, Sony Interactive Entertainment, and Arc System Works, blending iconic Marvel heroes with the signature 2.5D, cel-shaded visuals ArcSys is famous for.
Currently, the roster includes eight confirmed fighters: Captain America, Ms. Marvel, Doctor Doom, Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, Star-Lord, Iron Man, and Storm. A closed beta is scheduled from September 5-7 for PlayStation 5 users, giving early access to the game's 4v4 team battles. This test phase is set to help fine-tune the game based on player feedback ahead of its full launch in 2026.
Marvel Tokon Could Transition to PS6
During a recent appearance at EVO 2025, producer Takeshi Yamanaka expressed the studio’s ambition to support Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls for at least a decade, hinting at potential life beyond the PS5. Translated statements suggest that if the game garners enough success, ongoing support could stretch into the PlayStation 6 era. While Sony hasn't officially revealed PS6, industry insiders speculate a release window around 2027, with leaks about upcoming hardware already circulating.
For now, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is set for release on PlayStation 5 and PC sometime in 2026, though a specific date hasn’t been locked in. Many fans anticipate the launch to happen before EVO 2026 to ensure the game is featured prominently during the annual fighting game event. A decade of updates and support wouldn’t be unusual for Arc System Works, given the longevity seen with Dragon Ball FighterZ and Guilty Gear -Strive-, both of which have enjoyed years of competitive play and post-launch content.
If Fighting Souls follows a similar path, it could become a central title in the fighting game community for years to come, potentially bridging console generations along the way.
