Katy Perry gave both music lovers and Sims fans a treat when she unexpectedly performed part of her hit Last Friday Night in Simlish during a live show. For longtime followers of the game series, Perry’s connection to The Sims goes back years, with her songs featured in The Sims 2 and The Sims 3.

Simlish — the quirky, fictional language spoken by Sims — has been a staple of the franchise, with many artists re-recording their hits in it. Alongside Perry, acts like My Chemical Romance, Depeche Mode, The Flaming Lips, and Yoasobi have all lent their voices to Simlish tracks that appear in-game.

During one of her recent concerts, Perry was handed a note from a fan requesting she sing the Simlish version of Last Friday Night. Initially laughing and hesitating, she decided to give it a go — reading from the paper and performing the chorus flawlessly. The crowd erupted in cheers, though some in attendance seemed puzzled by the playful “gibberish” lyrics.

The original Simlish rendition appeared in The Sims 3: Katy Perry’s Sweet Treats back in 2012, with EA even releasing behind-the-scenes footage of Perry recording the track — a video that quickly went viral and has since racked up millions of views.

More than a decade later, Perry’s impromptu revival of the performance has gone viral once again. While fans aren’t holding their breath for her to appear in another Sims title, the renewed buzz might just inspire EA or Maxis to invite her back for a future project.
