Square Enix has officially confirmed that the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy will no longer remain limited to PlayStation platforms. According to series director Naoki Hamaguchi, all three parts of the trilogy will be heading to Xbox Series X/S and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, giving even more players around the world the opportunity to experience one of the most iconic stories in gaming history.

The Expansion of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Beyond PlayStation

The news comes as no surprise to many fans, considering the original Final Fantasy 7 from 1997 is widely regarded as one of the greatest JRPGs of all time. Its 2020 remake launched to universal acclaim, and Square Enix later revealed that the project had grown into a full trilogy. With updated visuals, expanded story arcs, and entirely reimagined gameplay systems, the remake has introduced Final Fantasy 7 to a new generation of gamers.

Until now, though, Xbox and Nintendo fans had been left wondering if they’d be able to experience the complete trilogy. That question has finally been answered.

Confirmed Platforms and Release Window

On September 12, 2025, Hamaguchi took to social media to announce that the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy is “expanding to major platforms,” specifically naming Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2.

This builds on Square Enix’s earlier reveal that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade was coming to those consoles, but until now, it was unclear whether Part 2 (Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth) and Part 3 would also follow. Hamaguchi’s announcement confirms that the entire trilogy is making the leap.

The official Square Enix post that Hamaguchi quote-tweeted revealed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will release on January 22, 2026, for Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2. While exact release windows for the later parts remain under wraps, this first date gives players a concrete starting point.

New Accessibility Options for Newcomers

One major surprise in the announcement was the confirmation of a new gameplay mode called “Streamlined Progression.” This optional mode ensures that:

  • HP, MP, Limit gauge, and ATB gauge are always full.

  • Attacks consistently deal 9999 damage.

These adjustments significantly lower the difficulty barrier, making the trilogy more accessible to newcomers or players who simply want to experience the story without heavy combat challenges.

Square Enix has emphasized that Final Fantasy 7 Remake was already among the most approachable entries in the series, but this new mode further cements its role as a perfect entry point for fans curious about the franchise.

What About Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Part 3?

The burning question for fans is when Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and the third entry will be available on Xbox and Switch 2. Square Enix has not yet provided release dates, but speculation is high that new details could arrive during the Tokyo Game Show (September 25–28, 2025), where Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is being showcased.

Given that Part 3 already has an internal launch window, according to previous Square Enix statements, players may not have to wait too long for confirmation.

A Landmark Moment for Final Fantasy Fans

For years, Final Fantasy 7 Remake has been closely associated with PlayStation, but this move represents a major step toward accessibility and inclusivity across the gaming industry. With the trilogy finally reaching Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch 2, millions of additional players will be able to dive into Cloud Strife’s epic journey — from Midgar to the wider world of Gaia.
