🚀 The long-awaited Battlefield 6 has officially launched, and while fans are diving into massive multiplayer battles across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, one of the game’s top creative leaders has sparked a new discussion about the future of generative AI in gaming.

💬 In a recent interview with the BBC, Rebecka Coutaz, Vice President and General Manager at DICE and Criterion Games, shared her views on the evolving role of artificial intelligence in game development. Coutaz described generative AI as “very seducing”, suggesting that the technology could play a powerful role in helping developers create more immersive and dynamic experiences — though she emphasized that no assets in Battlefield 6 were made with AI.

 

 

🧠 According to Coutaz, generative AI was used during the pre-production stages of Battlefield 6 to assist the team in brainstorming, prototyping, and speeding up certain creative workflows. She clarified that every in-game element — from the massive battle maps and weapon models to character designs — was created entirely by human artists. “AI helped us explore concepts faster,” she explained, “but the human touch remains essential. It’s a tool for innovation, not a replacement for creativity.”

🎨 Coutaz’s remarks come at a time when the gaming industry is rapidly experimenting with AI-assisted workflows. A 2025 report by Totally Human Media revealed that over 20% of new games released on Steam utilized some form of generative AI during development, primarily by indie studios and small teams. However, major AAA developers like DICE and EA have largely taken a more cautious approach, preferring to explore the technology behind the scenes rather than implement it directly into production pipelines.

🔥 Despite some skepticism within the gaming community, Coutaz believes AI could empower developers to break creative barriers. “If we can harness AI responsibly,” she said, “it can help us build richer worlds, smarter NPCs, and even more dynamic storytelling. It’s about working with technology — not being replaced by it.”

📈 The release of Battlefield 6 itself has been a massive success. Within hours of launch on October 10, the game reached a peak of over 747,000 concurrent players on Steam, with millions more across consoles. Earlier beta tests set franchise records with over 420 million matches played during 92 million hours of gameplay.
