Battlefield 6: EA Clarifies Limited Use of Bots in Open Beta Modes

EA has released a statement to clarify how bots are being used in the Battlefield 6 open beta, following early player feedback. Some players noticed AI-controlled characters during early access, which sparked questions about how widespread their inclusion would be.
According to EA, bots are currently limited to a single playlist—Training Grounds—which is part of the Breakthrough Initiation mode. This mode is designed specifically for introducing players to the Breakthrough experience, supporting 16-player matches with AI bots filling the remaining slots. EA says this helps new players ease into the gameplay without being overwhelmed by full lobbies of human opponents.
“Training Grounds playlists are here to introduce people to the core elements of Breakthrough, and offer a smoother experience than a full lobby,” EA explained in their official statement.
Importantly, these bots only appear during the first 15 levels of the open beta and are automatically removed once players rank up past that threshold. This ensures that competitive modes later in the beta (and likely in the full release) remain bot-free unless absolutely necessary.
For players who want to avoid bots entirely, EA has provided a simple solution: choose Breakthrough from the Featured playlist section. This version of the mode is exclusively populated by human players, ensuring a traditional multiplayer experience.
The open beta began with early access on Thursday, August 7, available to players who registered through Battlefield Labs, subscribed to EA Play Pro, or received an invite via the recent multiplayer event. The full open beta kicks off on Saturday, August 9 and runs until Sunday, August 10. Another test weekend is scheduled for August 14 to 17, though it’s unclear whether any additional testing periods will be held before the official launch on October 10.
With this clarification, EA aims to reassure fans that AI opponents are being used carefully and intentionally, only to improve the onboarding experience for new players.
