Studio Wildcard has announced that Ark: Survival Ascended will officially introduce the Helicoprion, a unique creature that originally gained popularity through one of the game’s top community mods. Known for supporting player-created content, Wildcard continues to expand the game’s world by integrating mod favorites into its mainline releases. Ark: Survival Ascended first launched in Early Access back in October 2023, and has been steadily receiving new features and improvements since.

Over the past few months, Ark: Survival Ascended has seen a variety of updates addressing gameplay bugs and performance concerns. Patches like v68.34, rolled out in July 2025, tackled persistent frame rate drops during weather events like sandstorms, while earlier updates fixed progression glitches that affected boss encounters and resource gathering.

Helicoprion Joins Ark: Survival Ascended on August 20

The next major addition is the Helicoprion, an extinct species of shark nicknamed the “buzzsaw killer” for its distinct spiraled jaw. Originally part of Garuga123’s popular “ARK: Additions” mod, the Helicoprion will now become a permanent fixture in the official game. Studio Wildcard describes the creature as mostly passive, preferring to hunt Ammonites, and won’t bother players unless provoked. However, they hinted at its potential usefulness for crafting, thanks to its unusual jaw structure.

The Helicoprion is scheduled to arrive in Ark: Survival Ascended on August 20, 2025. Unlike mod installations, this addition will be a core part of the game, available to all players without the need for external downloads. Due to its calm nature, players should have no trouble taming it, making the Helicoprion a great companion for underwater exploration. While breeding functionality hasn’t been confirmed, it seems likely that the creature will follow standard taming and breeding mechanics.

More Content Coming to Ark: Survival Ascended

The Helicoprion isn’t the only thing players can look forward to this month. Starting August 15, Ragnarok map transfers will open up, allowing unrestricted movement of characters, creatures, and items onto the map. Temporary “Expire” servers will also go live until September 1, giving players more opportunities to experiment with gameplay in a limited-time environment.

Studio Wildcard had previously laid out an extensive content roadmap earlier this year, revealing plans for a free Valguero Ascended map and community-voted creatures, expected later in August. Looking ahead, the studio also teased three “Fantastic Tames” set to roll out in 2026, keeping the game’s future content pipeline packed with new additions.
