A new rumor hints that Ubisoft could be preparing to bring back its classic Rayman series for modern platforms. According to a well-known gaming insider, the company may be working on multiple Rayman projects, including a compilation of older titles. Ubisoft itself, however, has not issued any official statement regarding these reports.
The Rayman franchise first launched in 1995 with a 2D side-scroller that tasked players with freeing Electoons and overcoming bosses across colorful worlds. The series later made the leap into 3D with Rayman 2: The Great Escape in 1999, which is still remembered as one of Ubisoft’s toughest and most acclaimed platformers of the PlayStation era. The last major console release, Rayman Legends (2013), was praised for its art style and inventive level design, though the franchise has since been mostly dormant outside of spin-offs like Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope.
Two Projects Potentially in the Works
The new rumor, reported by ComicBook, points to insider Nash Weedle, who claims Ubisoft has two Rayman projects in early development. One is believed to be a compilation of previous games updated for modern hardware, while the other may take the form of a fresh 3D platformer using the hand-drawn cartoon-inspired style of Rayman Origins and Legends. Weedle also suggested that Ubisoft could be previewing these titles behind closed doors at this year’s Gamescom in Cologne, which runs from August 20 to 24.
Hints From the Past
Though Ubisoft has remained silent about the speculation, this isn’t the first sign of Rayman’s potential return. In September 2024, the company renewed its Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc trademark, sparking fan theories that the franchise might soon reappear. While no announcements have followed, that move added fuel to hopes of a revival.
With Gamescom 2025 fast approaching, fans of the limbless hero will be keeping a close eye on Ubisoft’s lineup. Whether the rumors prove true or not, excitement is already building for Rayman’s possible comeback.
