Dead by Daylight is Revamping Its Kill Switch System After Player Feedback

Behaviour Interactive, the studio behind Dead by Daylight, has announced a significant revamp of the game’s Kill Switch system. The decision comes after community frustration over how the system is currently handled, particularly following controversy involving the Streetwise perk exploit.

The Kill Switch in Dead by Daylight is meant to temporarily disable problematic content—be it perks, items, or even characters—when major issues arise. However, when players recently flagged the Streetwise perk for allowing infinite item charges, Behaviour initially refused to act, saying the problem didn’t meet their Kill Switch criteria. This sparked backlash, with players criticizing the lack of transparency and responsiveness.

Following the outcry, Behaviour Interactive has confirmed it’s overhauling the Kill Switch system to be more agile and in tune with player concerns. The team promised better communication around when and why the Kill Switch will be activated moving forward. As an immediate response, Behaviour has now disabled Streetwise, along with Blood Rush and Michonne's Last Stand perk, as part of this revised approach.

Dead by Daylight has been riding high on its recent success, notably hitting a new peak of over 106,000 concurrent players after the release of its Five Nights at Freddy’s chapter in June 2025. This broke the game’s previous record, which stood since the Resident Evil crossover in 2021.

While Behaviour is known for frequently updating Dead by Daylight with patches and content drops, not every change is communicated clearly. Just last month, players noticed fewer anniversary cakes spawning during the Twisted Masquerade event, only for Behaviour to later confirm that this reduction was intentional, not a bug.

Alongside this Kill Switch revamp, Behaviour is also exploring ways to bring back popular limited-time features like Chaos Shuffle, as hinted in a recent community leak. With these steps, the developer seems committed to rebuilding trust and ensuring future updates reflect player feedback more effectively.
