Fresh leaks have surfaced about Resident Evil Requiem, teasing major gameplay innovations like vehicle traversal and combat inspired by The Last of Us Part 2. With Capcom expected to showcase the first official gameplay soon, these claims suggest the ninth mainline installment could deliver a significant evolution for the survival horror series.
Following the events of Resident Evil Village, fans have eagerly awaited the franchise’s next chapter. After reported internal delays, Resident Evil Requiem was finally revealed during Summer Game Fest 2025. The debut trailer confirmed a return to a devastated Raccoon City and introduced Grace Ashcroft as the new lead, with leaks hinting that Leon Kennedy will also play a major role.
According to well-known Capcom insider Dusk Golem, the game’s Raccoon City setting will feature open, explorable areas, with vehicles available for traversal—something the series has rarely offered beyond scripted sequences. The insider also claims Capcom is aiming for smooth performance in these open spaces, with a 60fps target in mind.
Combat may also see a dramatic shift. Leon’s gameplay segments are reportedly drawing inspiration from The Last of Us Part 2, incorporating advanced stealth options, dynamic melee encounters, and slower, more deliberate combat pacing. Grace’s sections will allegedly emphasize interactive environments, encouraging players to use objects creatively while managing light and shadow as part of the survival experience.
If these details prove accurate, Resident Evil Requiem could deliver one of the most ambitious gameplay overhauls in the series’ history—blending open-area exploration, vehicular movement, and cinematic, tension-driven combat in a way that both honors and reinvents the classic Resident Evil formula.
