Ubisoft has recently offered a glimpse into the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, discussing ongoing storylines and gameplay directions for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The developers addressed the modern-day setting and the iconic Assassins vs Templars conflict, hinting that the series may continue to expand these elements in upcoming updates or future titles.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows enjoyed a strong launch earlier this year, marking the second-biggest release in the franchise after Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Ubisoft revealed that the game has already reached over five million players, including Ubisoft+ subscribers, signaling continued interest in the series.
In a recent Reddit AMA, level designer Luc Plante explained that while the Assassins vs Templars storyline has only surfaced lightly in Shadows, it will likely see deeper exploration soon. Plante also addressed the modern-day narrative, noting that the Animus HUB lays the foundation for delivering these story elements in new ways, and that player feedback will shape future developments. Additional insights suggested that social stealth mechanics might return, and the changing seasons featured in Shadows could appear in upcoming games.
Ubisoft continues to support Shadows with updates. The recent 1.0.7 patch introduced New Game+, raised the level cap from 60 to 80, balanced gameplay, and fixed bugs, ensuring players remain engaged while anticipating the franchise’s next steps.
