Leaked Sequel to Aliens: Fireteam Elite Reportedly in Development
A new entry in the Aliens: Fireteam Elite series appears to have been unintentionally revealed online, sparking excitement among fans of the long-running sci-fi horror franchise. The leak, which surfaced via an ESRB rating post before being swiftly removed, hints that a full sequel to the 2021 cooperative shooter is already in production.
The listing briefly described an M-rated title being developed by Cold Iron Studios and published by Daybreak Game Company, the studio’s parent company. According to the leak, the sequel will release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms, signaling a current-gen exclusive experience. While the ESRB page has since been taken down, screenshots and cached data have been circulating on social media and gaming forums, effectively confirming the project’s existence.
When Aliens: Fireteam Elite first launched in 2021, it received a mixed critical reception. While many praised its atmosphere and cooperative gameplay, others criticized its repetitive mission design and lack of strong narrative depth. Despite these shortcomings, the game managed to cultivate a dedicated player base, maintaining consistent engagement years after release. The title even saw a Nintendo Switch port in 2023, suggesting that its long-term performance exceeded initial expectations.
Cold Iron Studios’ decision to revisit the Aliens universe makes sense given the continued popularity of the franchise. On Steam, Aliens: Fireteam Elite holds a “Very Positive” rating from over 13,000 players, and concurrent user data shows a stable community of around 500 to 1,000 active players. The developers appear to have taken this as encouragement to expand upon their original concept and address the issues that critics highlighted in the first game.
If the leak is accurate, the sequel could potentially offer a more cinematic experience, deeper story integration, and improved mission variety — all areas where the original struggled. Fans are already speculating about the return of iconic Xenomorph types, new weapons, and a broader co-op structure that could support more than three players.
The timing of this leak also aligns perfectly with renewed interest in the Alien franchise, fueled by the success of Alien: Romulus and the upcoming FX television series “Alien: Earth.” With both projects expanding the lore and introducing new audiences to the franchise, the gaming sequel could serve as a major opportunity to capitalize on that momentum.
While neither Cold Iron Studios nor Daybreak Game Company has made any official statements regarding the leak, the evidence strongly suggests that Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2 (or a similarly titled successor) is indeed in active development. If so, fans can expect an official reveal sometime in early 2026, with the potential for gameplay footage or teasers appearing later this year.
For now, the only certainty is that the Alien franchise isn’t slowing down—and with this sequel on the horizon, it looks like the Xenomorphs are preparing for another invasion of the gaming world.
