Critical Role has officially set the stage for its highly anticipated Campaign 4, and the first glimpse into this new story already has fans buzzing. The upcoming season introduces a gripping narrative centered around the looming execution of a mysterious figure known as Thjazi Fang, a name tied to rebellion, power struggles, and mythic history.

Unlike the familiar settings of Exandria, Campaign 4 ventures into uncharted territory with the entirely original world of Aramán. The campaign is also making waves by featuring Brennan Lee Mulligan of Dimension 20 fame as Dungeon Master, while Matt Mercer, the usual DM, joins the table as a player for the very first time in a main Critical Role campaign. Accompanied by twelve other performers, both newcomers and returning cast members, this season promises to be unlike anything Critical Role has attempted before.

The teaser trailer, narrated by Mulligan in the role of Thjazi Fang, sets a haunting tone. Fang, who was captured 12 years after the infamous Falcon’s Rebellion, declares that the Sundered Houses have grown stronger while the Revolutionary Council has dwindled into weakness. His final words echo a call to arms, invoking the gods’ war from 80 years earlier: “I can still hear the Falcon’s cry. Can you?”

According to the official description, Fang is described as “Hero to many, enemy to some.” His fate will drive the campaign forward, drawing together 13 unique player characters across fractured factions. Players will navigate the godless land of Aramán, contending with political upheaval, fractured alliances, and questions of who—or what—might seize power in a world abandoned by deities.

Campaign 4 will spotlight three distinct groups of adventurers—the Seekers, the Soldiers, and the Schemers—each facing unique challenges in a volatile setting where hope is dwindling. Themes of iconoclasm, rebellion, and unity are expected to play heavily into the story, reflecting Mulligan’s signature style of storytelling.

Fans eager to watch the journey unfold can tune in beginning October 2, streaming live every Thursday at 7 PM PT on Twitch, YouTube, and Critical Role’s own Beacon platform. Campaign 4 will also feature updated rules from Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition (2024), along with homebrew systems designed by former D&D creative leads Jeremy Crawford and Chris Perkins.

Perhaps most importantly, Campaign 4 exists as a fresh start—completely independent of Critical Role’s past campaigns. Viewers won’t need prior knowledge of Exandria to dive in, making this the perfect entry point for new fans while still offering rich lore and epic stakes for longtime followers.
