The director of Monster Hunter Wilds, Yuya Tokuda, has confirmed that additional PC performance updates are on the way, with fixes planned to roll out this winter and beyond. While the game debuted with nearly 1.4 million concurrent players on Steam and became Capcom’s fastest-selling title with over 8 million copies sold in three days, technical issues on PC have caused a steep decline in player numbers.
Despite launching to critical acclaim for its story and expansive open world, many PC users have struggled with severe performance drops, even on high-end systems. Capcom recently announced that the next major patch will arrive early, moving its release date from September to August 13. This update will introduce new content and overall improvements, but players will need to wait longer for a fully optimized PC experience.
Tokuda explained that reducing CPU strain without negatively impacting overall performance is a major challenge. Some improvements were implemented in June’s Title Update 2, but the most significant CPU optimizations are planned for Title Update 4, scheduled for release this winter. These fixes come at a critical time, as the game’s Steam rating fell to “Overwhelmingly Negative” earlier this year.
Sales have also dropped sharply, with only 477,000 units sold in the last quarter. While some decline after launch is expected, ongoing performance problems and a lack of fresh content have been major factors. Capcom is aiming to win players back with Title Update 3 in late September, which will add a new monster and the limited-time Festival of Accord seasonal event. Fans are hopeful that with improved stability and new content, Monster Hunter Wilds can regain its momentum.
