Capcom Denies Pragmata Is a Secret Mega Man Game

Capcom has officially addressed fan speculation surrounding Pragmata, firmly denying that the upcoming sci-fi action-adventure title has any connection to the Mega Man franchise. While new trailers and an updated 2026 release window have reignited interest in the mysterious game, many of its narrative details remain tightly under wraps, naturally leading to widespread fan theories.

Pragmata's Development and Fan Speculation

Since its initial announcement, Pragmata has experienced a challenging development cycle. The game was delayed twice, and Capcom maintained a relatively quiet public stance, fueling both anticipation and frustration among its fanbase. As a result, players have been eager to draw connections to other Capcom titles, with some speculating that Pragmata might secretly be a new Mega Man installment.

Capcom Clarifies: Pragmata Is Its Own IP

In a recent interview with VGC, Capcom producer Naoto Oyama responded to these theories with a laugh, making it clear that Pragmata is "a completely new game". Oyama emphasized that any visual or thematic similarities to Mega Man—or other Capcom franchises like Resident Evil—are coincidental or mere Easter eggs. For example, while Pragmata features zombie-like enemies and a humanoid protagonist named Diana, these elements do not indicate any direct ties to previous games.

Despite the denial, it’s understandable why fans speculated. Pragmata is set on the moon, features corrupted robot adversaries, and has a main character with a design heavy in blue tones, superficially echoing Mega Man’s aesthetic. The absence of a mainline Mega Man game in recent years may have also heightened fan expectations, prompting hopeful connections wherever possible.

A Nod to Mega Man Fans

Oyama expressed appreciation for the enthusiasm Mega Man fans have shown toward Pragmata. Interestingly, he previously worked on the Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, establishing a professional link to the franchise. Still, he reassured fans that Pragmata is a standalone project, with no canonical ties to Mega Man or any other Capcom IP.

Looking Ahead

For those eager to learn more, Capcom will showcase Pragmata at Tokyo Game Show 2025, starting September 24. The presentation promises additional insights into gameplay, story, and the game’s immersive lunar setting, giving fans their first comprehensive look at the ambitious new project.

While Pragmata may not be a secret Mega Man title, Capcom’s clarification ensures that speculation is grounded in reality, allowing fans to focus on the game’s own identity and upcoming reveals.
