Helldivers 2 has been one of the biggest live-service surprises in recent years, but not everything about the experience has been smooth. One of the longest-running complaints from the PC community is the game’s massive and ever-growing file size, which now weighs in at around 140 GB. While console players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S only need roughly 35 GB of space, PC fans have been left dealing with four times the install size, sparking frustration across forums and social media.
Arrowhead CEO Speaks Out on File Size Complaints
In a recent discussion on the official Helldivers 2 Discord server, Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani directly addressed the growing controversy. When asked whether the team had any plans to reduce the ballooning PC storage requirements, Jorjani confirmed that the issue has been “escalated in priority.”
However, he also admitted that players should not expect an immediate fix, stating that he could not provide a timeline for when the situation would be resolved. While this is not the definitive answer fans were hoping for, it does at least confirm that the studio is listening and working toward a solution.
Why PC Players Are Frustrated
File size isn’t just a matter of storage convenience — it also ties into performance concerns. Players have reported worsening optimization on PC, making the enormous installation size even harder to justify. The constant increase with each update has left some wondering whether Arrowhead has been prioritizing new content over technical refinement.
The disparity between platforms has also fueled complaints. With console versions running smoothly on a fraction of the storage space, many PC users feel shortchanged, questioning why the PC build requires such a bloated installation in comparison.
The Silver Lining: Direct Communication
While players remain frustrated, Jorjani’s willingness to communicate openly with fans has earned some respect. It’s unusual for a studio head to spend so much time on community channels like Discord, directly engaging with players about their concerns. Even if the answers aren’t always what fans want to hear, the transparency helps build trust between the community and the developers.
Helldivers 2 Still Thriving Despite Issues
Despite these setbacks, Helldivers 2 continues to thrive across platforms. Following its recent launch on Xbox Series X/S, the title quickly became the top paid game on the console, surpassing nearly one million sales in just weeks. The live-service shooter has maintained a healthy player base, thanks to consistent updates, engaging co-op gameplay, and a steady pipeline of content.
Of course, success doesn’t erase the challenges. The PC file size issue remains one of the most pressing concerns for Arrowhead, and while there is no immediate fix, the acknowledgment from the CEO gives fans hope that improvements are on the horizon.
For now, Helldivers 2 players will need to be patient — and keep plenty of hard drive space free — while they wait for the game to shrink its oversized footprint on PC.
