The world of first-person shooters on PC has gained another major contender, as Arena Breakout: Infinite, developed by Morefun Studios, has exploded in popularity on Steam. The free-to-play tactical extraction shooter only just launched its full version on September 15, 2025, but it has already attracted tens of thousands of players, quickly becoming one of the platform’s hottest new FPS titles.

Steam has long been home to competitive shooters, with heavyweights like Counter-Strike 2, Destiny 2, and Rainbow Six Siege dominating the charts for years. Breaking into that space is no easy task, yet Arena Breakout: Infinite has managed to pull in impressive numbers right out of the gate. Shortly after its release, the game reached around 28,600 concurrent players, according to SteamDB. Just days later, its popularity grew even further, surpassing 35,000 concurrent players and pushing the game into Steam’s Top 50 most-played titles.
For comparison, concurrent player counts are often viewed as a direct indicator of success in the PC gaming market. While indie hits like Hollow Knight: Silksong have set high benchmarks with hundreds of thousands of simultaneous players, Arena Breakout: Infinite’s rise is still remarkable, especially considering its recent entry into the market. The fact that it has already beaten out several other free shooters on Steam highlights just how much traction it’s gaining with FPS fans.
Part of the appeal may stem from the game’s free-to-play model, but history shows that being free is not enough to guarantee success. Ubisoft’s XDefiant, for example, launched as a free FPS but eventually failed to maintain its player base and was shut down. Arena Breakout: Infinite, however, has managed to differentiate itself with its tactical extraction mechanics, polished gameplay, and a strong early reception from the community. At the time of writing, the title boasts a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, based on nearly 4,000 player reviews.
The real test will be whether Morefun Studios can maintain this momentum. FPS players are known for their loyalty to established franchises like Call of Duty or long-standing Steam staples such as Rainbow Six Siege. At the same time, the market is heating up with blockbuster launches like Borderlands 4, which could challenge Arena Breakout: Infinite’s position on the charts.
Still, the early signs are promising. With consistent updates, community-driven improvements, and strong word-of-mouth, Arena Breakout: Infinite has the potential to cement itself as one of Steam’s breakout hits of 2025. For now, it has captured the attention of thousands of FPS fans—and it shows no signs of slowing down.
