The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits Expansion Showcases New Features, Imaginary Friends, and More

EA and Maxis have given fans their most in-depth look yet at The Sims 4: Adventure Awaits, the highly anticipated expansion pack set to launch on October 2. During a special developer livestream, players were treated to a full showcase of new features, mechanics, skills, and content designed to expand the Sims experience in creative ways.

The livestream followed weeks of teasers, trailers, and blog posts, but this was the first time fans could see many of the expansion’s gameplay systems in action. Developers highlighted new aspirations, traits, creative activities, and even occult gameplay that will reshape how players approach family life, community building, and exploration in The Sims 4.

Imaginary Friends Return as a Core Feature

One of the biggest reveals was the comeback of Imaginary Friends, a fan-favorite occult first introduced in The Sims 3. In Adventure Awaits, children can bring their plush toys to life, unlocking companions with unique personalities and abilities. Each imaginary friend comes with its own traits and requirements to fully transform into a real character, adding new layers of storytelling and emotional depth.

Custom Venues, Playgrounds, and Getaways

The developers also showed off the new custom venues system, which lets players design and assign specific roles for vacation spots, creative hubs, and social hangouts. Using modular playground pieces such as slides, climbing frames, and platforms, Sims will be able to construct unique play areas for children and families. The expansion emphasizes freedom of expression, letting players customize not only their homes but entire getaway experiences.

The Papercraft Skill and Creative Competitions

Another highlight was the introduction of the Papercraft Skill, which allows Sims to craft origami, paper mache decorations, and other handmade creations. These items can be used to decorate living spaces, shared with friends, or entered into competitions. The new skill ties into the pack’s broader focus on creativity, which also includes smoothie blending stations, crafting challenges, and social activities to encourage collaborative play.

The livestream explored new aspirations like the Critter Hunter, new traits for Sims’ personalities, and plenty of upcoming items for build and buy mode. EA also confirmed that the expansion will include fresh lore, community-driven events like the “Forever Friends” celebration, and exclusive rewards for early participants.

The presentation lasted nearly 90 minutes and offered fans an extensive look without revealing every single secret. According to the developers, some surprises are intentionally being kept for players to discover when the expansion officially launches.
