Sucker Punch and Sony have given fans another glimpse at Ghost of Yotei, the highly anticipated follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima. On September 8, PlayStation’s official YouTube channel shared a new video highlighting the breathtaking environments and cultural landmarks awaiting players in this upcoming open-world action-adventure.

Unlike traditional gameplay trailers, the latest showcase avoids combat and dialogue entirely. Instead, it delivers a tranquil 10-minute montage of landscapes, shrines, and rural Japanese life from the early 17th century. This quiet presentation emphasizes the atmosphere, beauty, and authenticity of the game’s setting rather than fast-paced action.

A Journey Through 17th-Century Japan

Set more than 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yotei follows Atsu, a wandering mercenary consumed by a mission of vengeance against the notorious Yotei Six, a ruthless gang led by Lord Saito.

Players will traverse a historically inspired version of Japan, encountering everything from wheat fields and farmhouses to dense autumnal forests and cascading waterfalls. The video closes with a dramatic shot of Mount Yotei, the iconic volcanic peak that lends its name to the game and serves as a looming symbol of Atsu’s journey.

A Refined Combat Arsenal

Although this latest preview focused on exploration, combat remains central to Ghost of Yotei. Atsu will have access to a diverse arsenal of weapons including the traditional katana, an odachi greatsword, bows and arrows, a matchlock rifle, and stealth tools such as smoke bombs. Each weapon is designed to be strategically effective against specific enemy types, demanding adaptability and tactical awareness from players.

This layered combat system builds on the foundation established in Ghost of Tsushima while expanding the tactical variety available in open-world encounters.

Anticipation Builds Ahead of Launch

Ghost of Yotei will release globally on October 2, 2025, exclusively for PlayStation platforms. The game is also confirmed to have a major presence at Tokyo Game Show 2025, where it will be showcased alongside Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. The expo runs from September 25–28 at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba, Japan.

With its richly detailed environments, expanded combat mechanics, and a fresh revenge-driven narrative, Ghost of Yotei is shaping up to be one of fall 2025’s most talked-about releases. Fans of Ghost of Tsushima and newcomers alike will find plenty to anticipate in Sucker Punch’s latest samurai epic.
