Remedy Confirms Steady Progress on Max Payne Remakes

Remedy Entertainment has shared a fresh development update for fans eagerly awaiting the modern remakes of the first two Max Payne titles. According to the studio’s latest financial report, the project—which will merge the 2001 and 2003 games into a single release—remains in full production and is now moving toward its next major development phase.

The announcement comes during an especially active period for Remedy. Over the last four years, the studio has launched three titles, including 2021’s Alan Wake Remastered, paving the way for last year’s Alan Wake 2. More recently, Remedy ventured into multiplayer with FBC: Firebreak, set in the same universe as Control. While the concept intrigued fans, the game’s reception has been mixed.

Max Payne Remakes Nearing New Milestone
Remedy says the remakes have been progressing with “steady momentum” throughout the second quarter, and collaboration with Rockstar Games has been “close and productive.” While no release window has been set, the update suggests that the project is firmly on track.

The same report also included details on Control 2, which Remedy says is advancing as planned. Development is now focusing heavily on gameplay design, mission structure, and environmental work. The studio described the goal as shaping the sequel into “a strong commercial offering.”

Not all of Remedy’s recent launches have met expectations. Although FBC: Firebreak attracted over one million players in its first 10 days—primarily on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5—the PC release fell short commercially and faced criticism over its onboarding and mission design. Remedy admitted it was “unsatisfied” with the launch from a business standpoint.

With Control 2 and the Max Payne remakes both moving forward, fans have plenty to look forward to, even if patience will still be required before either project reaches store shelves.
