Digimon Story: Time Stranger’s Physical Copies May Be Scarce at Launch Amid Massive Demand

Fans eager to grab a physical copy of Digimon Story: Time Stranger might face a tough challenge when the game officially launches. According to a recent update from Bandai Namco, demand for the upcoming title has exceeded expectations, making it likely that the first shipment of physical editions will sell out quickly. This comes nearly a decade after the release of Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, the last major entry in the series, which left a lasting mark on both longtime fans and newcomers to the Digimon universe.

Originally unveiled during the February 2025 PlayStation State of Play, Digimon Story: Time Stranger is set for release on October 3. However, depending on time zones and versions, some players may gain early access a day before the official date. The buzz surrounding the title has continued to grow, and it appears that the excitement has outpaced the initial supply of boxed copies.

In a message posted on September 30 by the official Japanese account for Digimon Story: Time Stranger, Bandai Namco cautioned that packaged versions “may be difficult to obtain” during the first week of launch. The publisher urged fans to pre-order from local retailers as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. This warning follows the quick sell-out of the game’s $200 Collector’s Edition, which disappeared from major retailers within hours of opening pre-orders.

While physical editions are becoming increasingly rare in the modern gaming landscape—where digital downloads dominate—many players still cherish the experience of owning a tangible disc. Bandai Namco’s decision to offer a traditional boxed version was met with enthusiasm, but that same enthusiasm might now make copies hard to find.

In terms of performance, players should be aware that the console versions of Digimon Story: Time Stranger will run at 30 FPS, even on the PS5 Pro, while the PC (Steam) version will reach a smoother 60 FPS. Despite this limitation, the game’s stunning visuals, rich narrative, and reimagined battle system have already captured the attention of RPG fans around the world.

This situation is not new for collectors and franchise loyalists. Earlier in 2025, Clair Obscur faced a similar issue when physical editions vanished from store shelves, only to reappear at inflated prices on resale sites like eBay. If the pattern repeats, Digimon Story: Time Stranger might become one of those hard-to-find treasures that collectors talk about for years.

For those planning to dive into the latest chapter of the Digimon Story saga, the message is clear: pre-order early or risk waiting for the next production wave. With Bandai Namco already hinting at a limited supply, fans hoping for a disc copy will need to move fast if they want to add Time Stranger to their shelves this October.
