Electronic Arts has released a fresh update on its long-awaited Skate reboot, highlighting how the game’s seasonal content will work, what players can expect from early access, and even some of its soundtrack lineup. The news comes just weeks before the game’s early access launch later this summer.

The new entry, developed by EA’s Full Circle Studio in Vancouver, marks the franchise’s return after years of silence. First announced back in 2020, the project has gradually taken shape as a free-to-play live-service title that aims to keep players engaged with a steady stream of updates. While there’s no specific release date locked in yet, the studio has reiterated that early access will begin toward the end of summer 2025. A closed alpha is already underway.

According to the latest developer diary, The Grind: Vol. 5, players can expect deep customization tools, over 100 licensed music tracks, and a rotating seasonal model that will shape how new content arrives.

Customization at the Core

Skate will place heavy emphasis on letting players express themselves. The character creator will include countless outfit options, while boards can also be personalized down to the smallest details. Cosmetics will be earned either through gameplay or purchases, with some tied to Rip Chips, a unique in-game currency rewarded for completing challenges. These chips can unlock loot boxes containing random cosmetic items, which in turn raise a player’s Rip Score, helping them unlock even more customization options such as helmets, shoes, pants, deck art, and grip tape.

A Soundtrack Built for Discovery

Music has always been a big part of the Skate series, and the new game will launch with a playlist of more than 100 tracks. EA says the soundtrack will spotlight up-and-coming artists while also featuring classics. Community favorites will be curated into the evolving San Van Jams playlist. Some songs will even be collectible in the game world—hidden at skate spots, inside cars, or scattered across the city. Confirmed artists so far include Turnstile, Denzel Curry, Little Simz, Skeggs, Earth Wind & Fire, and MF Doom.

Seasonal Content Plans

Each season of Skate will last roughly three months, bringing new events, challenges, cosmetics, and sometimes even changes to the in-game world itself. Limited-time content will be distributed via the Skate Pass, which includes both free and premium tiers. The first season is set to begin shortly after early access launches, with additional details promised in The Grind: Vol. 6 this September.

Early access will be free-to-play and support up to 150 players per server, reinforcing EA’s ambition to make Skate a highly social and evolving platform for both casual skaters and competitive players.
