A brand-new teaser trailer for Cat Assassin, the upcoming neo-noir stealth action adventure starring Dave Bautista, has been revealed at Gamescom 2025. The trailer offers the first proper look at both the game’s darkly stylish world and its fluid gameplay, while also teasing the complex journey of its feline protagonist, Hugh.

A Dark Neo-Noir World with a Feline Twist

Cat Assassin is being developed by Titan1Studios, a Toronto-based team, in collaboration with Bautista’s own production company, Dogbone Entertainment. First announced in June 2025, the project immediately drew attention thanks to its unusual premise: a gritty, noir-inspired world inhabited entirely by anthropomorphic cats.

The Gamescom teaser sets the tone right away, with Bautista narrating a brooding line: “There are two kinds of things in this world: the things you leave behind, and the things that follow you. Me? I follow.” The narration cuts to cinematic shots of the game’s cityscape, full of neon-lit alleys, smoky bars, and tongue-in-cheek business names like “Whiskers and Whiskey” and “Nine Lives Insurance” — blending dark themes with playful humor.

Gameplay Inspirations and Mechanics

While the trailer is brief, it does provide several gameplay snippets, including Hugh scaling walls, vaulting obstacles, and moving with an agility that recalls the parkour mechanics of Assassin’s Creed. Developer Titan1Studios has already confirmed that Ubisoft’s iconic series was one of the inspirations behind the movement system.

The game also borrows from Splinter Cell, particularly its tactical espionage focus, and from Sifu, in the way combat is designed to feel fluid and reactive. Unlike traditional action titles, Cat Assassin will feature a roguelite structure: each time Hugh dies, he is sent back to an earlier stage in his life, while his enemies reincarnate as well. This cycle ensures that no two playthroughs unfold the same way, keeping tension and unpredictability at the heart of the experience.

From Stray’s Writer to a New Franchise

Storytelling will also be a major focus. The game’s script is being written by Steven Lerner, best known as the narrative mind behind the award-winning indie title Stray. Much like that game, Cat Assassin aims to balance emotional depth with an unusual premise, though its tone will lean more into neo-noir grit, complemented by flashes of dark comedy.

Beyond the first entry, Titan1Studios and Dogbone Entertainment see Cat Assassin as the launchpad for a larger franchise. Alongside multiple sequels, an animated series is already in the works, suggesting that Bautista’s assassin cat won’t be confined to video games alone.

Platforms and Release Details Still Under Wraps

For now, Cat Assassin does not have a confirmed release date or even a launch window. Titan1Studios has stated that the game will arrive on PC and a mix of “console and handheld platforms.” While this could include the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and even the rumored Nintendo Switch 2, nothing official has been confirmed.

What’s clear, however, is that the combination of Dave Bautista’s star power, an ambitious narrative structure, and a world unlike anything else in gaming makes Cat Assassin one of the most intriguing upcoming projects to watch. With its blend of stealth, action, roguelite elements, and noir atmosphere, the title could carve out its own unique space in the crowded action-adventure genre.
