FromSoftware has rolled out Patch 1.02.3 for Elden Ring Nightreign, marking the game’s second update of September 2025. This latest patch introduces a wave of balance adjustments, bug fixes, and new features—many of which target the recently added Deep of Night mode.
Nightreign’s Journey So Far
Released in May 2025, Elden Ring Nightreign quickly became another major hit for FromSoftware. The co-op focused spin on the studio’s acclaimed formula sold over five million copies within just a few months, earning praise for its fast-paced combat and rewarding progression loop. However, early criticism pointed to the game’s steep solo difficulty and somewhat repetitive content. Since launch, the developer has pushed several updates aimed at smoothing the experience and expanding gameplay variety.
Patch 1.02.3 – What’s New?
The new update refines both the base game and the Deep of Night mode. Among the biggest additions is the option to lower your Depth level by one, giving players more control over their progression. This feature, revealed earlier this month, makes the challenging mode slightly more approachable without stripping away its tension.
Players reaching Depth levels 3, 4, and 5 will now benefit from a rank loss demotion protection system, preventing them from being instantly dropped a level after defeat. Meanwhile, Depth level 1 players grouped with higher-level allies won’t lose points if they fall in battle, reducing frustration for new entrants into the mode.
Combat and Balance Adjustments
Beyond new features, Patch 1.02.3 includes sweeping balance updates. Attack power and stagger damage have been increased for most weapon types, while certain dual-wielding jump attacks have been tweaked for fairness. Relic effects were also reworked, particularly those tied to damage buildup and ally healing.
One standout adjustment alters the [Revenant] Relic effect, which now restores nearby allies rescued from near-death in addition to its previous healing power. Other tweaks address poison, blood loss, and skill-based relics, ensuring combat feels less punishing while retaining intensity.
Enemy encounters were also fine-tuned: several boss monsters, including the Valiant Gargoyle and Fallingstar Beast, had their HP and resistances reduced to better balance difficulty.
Deep of Night Mode Fixes
As expected, much of the patch focuses on ironing out issues with Deep of Night, which debuted earlier in September. Known for raising the stakes with harsher expeditions and exclusive Depth Relics, the mode pushed many players to their limits. Patch 1.02.3 resolves ranking calculation errors, adjusts relic effects, fixes rendering bugs in boss fights, and even updates expedition icons for players who reached Depth 5.
Looking Ahead
Patch 1.02.3 arrives just weeks after the last update, showing that FromSoftware is committed to keeping Nightreign polished and evolving. With its mix of bug fixes, balance tweaks, and accessibility improvements, the September updates are shaping the game into a more refined experience for both co-op adventurers and solo explorers.
As Elden Ring Nightreign continues to grow, fans can likely expect more patches, new relics, and future gameplay modes designed to keep players engaged well into 2026.
