Peak, the indie climbing and co-op exploration hit from Aggro Crab, has just rolled out a brand-new update for September 2025. The latest patch, officially titled Update 1.28.a, delivers a mix of accessibility improvements, balance changes, and bug fixes that further refine the critically acclaimed experience.

The update comes only weeks after the ambitious Mesa Update, showcasing Aggro Crab’s commitment to keeping the game fresh with frequent support. Despite being released only a few months ago on Steam, Peak has already sold more than 10 million copies, cementing itself as one of 2025’s most surprising indie success stories.

Accessibility Takes the Spotlight

The headline feature of Patch 1.28.a is the addition of a Color Blindness Mode, something fans have been requesting since launch. In this mode, the game applies unique patterns to its colored berries, making them easier to distinguish for players with different types of color blindness.

Since berry collection is a core part of exploration and survival in Peak, this change dramatically improves accessibility and ensures a larger audience can fully enjoy the experience. By prioritizing inclusivity, Aggro Crab continues to expand the game’s reach while strengthening its community.

Tornadoes, Biomes, and Balance Tweaks

Beyond accessibility, Patch 1.28.a delivers a set of crucial balance changes, particularly to environmental hazards:

  • Tornado Spawns Adjusted – the maximum time before the first tornado now arrives sooner, while the minimum time between tornadoes has been slightly increased. This creates a fairer but still tense challenge for climbers.

  • Tornado Hell Less Common – the notoriously frustrating biome variant now appears less frequently, reducing player frustration.

  • Nest Eggs Rebalanced – their weight has been adjusted to more accurately match the egg they contain.

  • Backpack Physics Overhauled – accidental backpack losses should now be far less frequent, a fix that addresses one of the community’s longest-running complaints.

These tweaks strike a balance between challenge and fairness, keeping Peak’s traversal engaging without crossing into frustration.

Major Bug Fixes

No update would be complete without a round of fixes. Patch 1.28.a addresses several long-standing technical and gameplay issues:

  • Fixed the bug preventing players from unlocking the Endurance Badge.

  • Resolved a freeze caused by tornado encounters that sometimes locked players on the loading screen.

  • Fixed NPC pathfinding, including the Scoutmaster’s inability to climb walls.

  • Corrected issues with items like Scrolls and Berrynanas, which previously spawned incorrectly.

  • Addressed multiple visual and cosmetic glitches caused by mismatched mods or vanilla-to-modded transitions.

On top of these, several minor improvements were made, including higher-resolution Guidebook rendering, fixed volume levels for bugles, and tweaks to Photosensitive Mode visuals.

A Modest but Meaningful Update

While not as content-heavy as last month’s Mesa Update, Patch 1.28.a highlights Aggro Crab’s dedication to quality-of-life improvements. For many players, the addition of Color Blindness Mode alone makes the game far more approachable. Combined with balance tweaks and stability fixes, the update ensures that Peak remains a fair, polished, and inclusive adventure for both veterans and newcomers.

With sales momentum still strong and a community hungry for more content, it’s clear that Aggro Crab intends to support Peak for the long haul. If the past few months are any indication, fans can expect even more frequent updates, balancing passes, and accessibility options in the near future.
