After more than a year of anticipation, Hades 2 finally has an official launch date. Developer Supergiant Games confirmed during the September 2025 Nintendo Direct that the highly anticipated roguelike sequel will leave early access on September 25, 2025, releasing digitally on PC, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. Fans who have been following the game since its early access debut will now gain access to the full version without needing to make an additional purchase.
From Early Access to Full Release
Hades 2 was first unveiled at The Game Awards 2022 and entered early access on PC in May 2024. Over the course of nearly 18 months, Supergiant rolled out multiple updates that steadily expanded the game’s scope. The most substantial patch, The Unseen Update, arrived in June 2025, followed by a July patch that fine-tuned balance and addressed community-reported bugs.
With the upcoming 1.0 release, PC players will see the game fully updated, while Nintendo owners will get their first chance to experience the complete sequel to one of the most celebrated indie games of the last decade.
A Catch for Physical Edition and Console Players
While September 25 marks the digital launch of Hades 2, players eager for a physical copy will need to wait until November 20, 2025, when the boxed edition officially hits retail shelves.
Unfortunately, PlayStation and Xbox fans may be facing an even longer delay. Supergiant confirmed that Hades 2 will eventually arrive on those platforms, but no firm release date has been shared. The original Hades followed a similar rollout strategy, first appearing on PC and Switch before coming to other consoles almost a year later. If history repeats itself, PlayStation and Xbox gamers may not see Hades 2 until 2026.
Supergiant’s First Sequel and Future Plans
Hades 2 represents a milestone for Supergiant Games, marking the studio’s first-ever sequel after a decade of standalone titles like Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre. The game continues the story of the Underworld, introducing new characters, mythological twists, and refined roguelike mechanics that build on the award-winning formula of its predecessor.
Although the studio has not hinted at its next project, it is expected that Supergiant will continue to support Hades 2 post-launch with updates and balance adjustments, much as it did with the original game. Fans hoping for a Hades 3 or a revival of the studio’s earlier franchises may have to wait several years before learning what comes next.
A Big Fall for Indie Gaming
The release of Hades 2 is shaping up to be one of the biggest indie launches of the year, adding to a packed fall release calendar. With the game officially leaving early access, players can look forward to diving into the full experience on September 25, while those collecting physical editions or waiting for console ports will have to practice a bit more patience.
