POPUCOM Brings Colorful Co-Op Adventure to Nintendo Switch in Holiday 2025

Nintendo’s September 2025 Direct presentation confirmed that POPUCOM, a cooperative puzzle-platformer first launched on PC this past June, will be heading to the Nintendo Switch later this year. Despite the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier in June, the original 2017 hybrid console continues to receive strong support, with POPUCOM being one of the standout third-party additions coming this holiday season.

A Highlight from September’s Nintendo Direct

The September 12 Nintendo Direct lasted nearly an hour and was filled with announcements for both first-party and third-party titles. While big names like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie stole the spotlight, smaller but noteworthy games also caught the eye of fans. Among them was POPUCOM, which debuted a new trailer showcasing its vibrant art style, co-op features, and puzzle-solving gameplay.

What to Expect from POPUCOM on Switch

Developed by Hypergryph and published by Gryph Frontier, POPUCOM is a game built around teamwork and quick thinking. The core mechanic revolves around using color-based Pomu gel, which players can swap between to solve puzzles and overcome challenges. The Nintendo Direct trailer highlighted how players will need to rapidly switch colors while navigating obstacles, solving environmental puzzles, and defeating enemies.

In addition to puzzle-platforming, the game features:

  • Super Artifacts that grant unique powers to progress through levels.

  • Boss battles that require strategy and coordination.

  • Multiple game modes, including a two-player story mode and a Party Mode that supports up to four players locally.

This emphasis on couch co-op makes POPUCOM a natural fit for the Nintendo Switch, where local multiplayer experiences remain hugely popular.

Community Reception and Pricing Expectations

Since its PC release earlier this year, POPUCOM has received a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, with players praising its colorful aesthetic (often compared to Splatoon) and engaging cooperative gameplay. The Switch version has not yet received an official price point, but given that the PC edition is available in both a Standard ($19.99) and a special “Too Many Clothes Edition” ($24.99), fans can expect Nintendo’s version to fall within a similar range.

Nintendo Switch Support Continues into 2026

The announcement of POPUCOM further emphasizes Nintendo’s ongoing commitment to supporting the original Switch, even as the Switch 2 gains traction. During the same Direct, Nintendo also revealed that Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream will arrive in Spring 2026, signaling that the 2017 console still has plenty of life left.

For fans waiting on POPUCOM, the exact release date is still to be confirmed, but the Holiday 2025 launch window suggests it could be available in time for the year-end shopping season. With its vibrant visuals, puzzle-driven mechanics, and strong focus on co-op play, POPUCOM is shaping up to be a must-have title for multiplayer fans on Nintendo’s beloved hybrid system.
