With less than two weeks to go before the launch of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, Nintendo and Koei Tecmo have dropped an all-new trailer confirming two surprise additions to the game’s already impressive roster — a mischievous Korok named Calamo and a mysterious mechanical Construct capable of transforming in battle.
These new heroes join an expanding cast of characters in what’s shaping up to be the most ambitious entry in the Hyrule Warriors sub-series yet. The trailer, which premiered on October 24, 2025, not only introduced these two newcomers but also gave fans a closer look at the chaotic large-scale battles, cinematic story moments, and playable characters featured in the game.
A Closer Look at the New Heroes
The two characters revealed in the new trailer — Calamo and the Mysterious Construct — are both brand-new to the Zelda franchise and showcase just how far Koei Tecmo and Nintendo are going to expand the lore of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
According to Nintendo’s official description, Calamo is “a boisterous Korok wandering Hyrule in search of a place to put down roots.” While Koroks have typically served as comic relief or collectible NPCs in mainline Zelda games, Calamo breaks the mold as a full-fledged playable fighter. The trailer briefly shows him wielding a slingshot-like weapon, using leaves and vines to bind enemies, and even summoning nature-based attacks in wide area-of-effect bursts — perfect for clearing out hordes of Bokoblins.
The second newcomer, the Mysterious Construct, remains far more enigmatic. Nintendo describes this character as “a mechanical warrior capable of transforming and taking to the skies.” The trailer shows glimpses of the Construct switching between bipedal and aerial forms, with laser-like energy attacks and spinning blades reminiscent of Zonai technology.
Given the Construct’s striking resemblance to Link’s armor from Tears of the Kingdom, some fans believe it might be a prototype version of the Zonai Constructs seen throughout that game. Others speculate it could have deeper narrative significance — perhaps connected to Rauru’s ancient kingdom or the events leading directly into The Imprisoning War.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment’s Expanding Roster
With these two additions, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment now officially features 11 confirmed playable characters, offering fans one of the most diverse rosters in any Zelda game to date. The full confirmed list so far includes:
-
Zelda
-
Rauru
-
Sonia
-
Mineru
-
Agraston (Sage of Fire)
-
Ardi (Sage of Lightning)
-
Qia (Sage of Water)
-
Raphica (Sage of Wind)
-
Lenalia (Zelda’s maid)
-
Calamo (Korok)
-
Mysterious Construct
Each character appears to feature a unique combat style tied to their elemental or narrative roles. For example, Qia commands vast waves of water to sweep away enemies, while Rauru wields powerful Zonai energy-based attacks similar to those seen in Tears of the Kingdom.
A Canonical Prequel to the Zelda Timeline
When Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment was first announced back in April 2025, it immediately generated excitement for being the first canonical Musou game in The Legend of Zelda series.
Unlike the original Hyrule Warriors or Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, both of which took place in alternate timelines or served as “what-if” scenarios, Age of Imprisonment is fully integrated into Zelda’s official lore. The story explores the fabled Imprisoning War, an event long referenced in A Link to the Past and Tears of the Kingdom, where Zelda and the Sages unite to seal away Ganondorf for the first time.
Players will take control of Zelda, Rauru, and other key figures as they lead massive armies against Ganondorf’s forces, witnessing the rise of Hyrule’s divine powers and the tragic events that set the stage for future Zelda titles.
A Deeper Look at the Latest Trailer
The new two-minute trailer offers more than just character reveals — it teases major story beats and gameplay innovations. Viewers can spot cinematic sequences showing Zelda channeling light energy against dark hordes, sweeping battlefields engulfed in flames, and glimpses of dungeon-like arenas that suggest boss-specific missions.
One particularly interesting scene shows Qia, the Sage of Water, fighting alongside a Zora warrior — potentially hinting at additional support characters or even unannounced playable heroes. Fans are already speculating that iconic races like the Gerudo or Rito may also join the roster before launch.
Gameplay and Features: Expanding the Musou Formula
Koei Tecmo has promised that Age of Imprisonment will refine and expand upon the traditional Musou combat formula. According to early previews, the game features:
-
Dynamic environmental interactions – Players can trigger floods, create bridges, or collapse structures mid-battle.
-
Dual-character combat – Switch seamlessly between two heroes to chain combo attacks and unlock unique team-based finishers.
-
Expanded base-building and upgrade systems – Manage Hyrule’s army, fortify outposts, and craft new weapons using resources collected in battle.
-
Cinematic storytelling – Fully voiced cutscenes with returning voice actors from Tears of the Kingdom.
These features, combined with its canonical storytelling and character depth, suggest Age of Imprisonment might be the most ambitious Hyrule Warriors game yet.
Launch Details and Future Updates
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment launches on November 6, 2025, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2, with a Deluxe Edition that includes bonus costumes, early access to challenge maps, and a digital artbook.
Nintendo has also confirmed a post-launch roadmap, which will add new missions, challenge modes, and potentially more playable heroes over time. If the pattern of previous Hyrule Warriors games continues, players can expect additional DLC packs throughout 2026.
