Recent developments surrounding Capcom's upcoming survival horror title, Resident Evil Requiem, suggest that a PlayStation 4 port may be closer to reality than previously thought. The game, officially confirmed for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, recently expanded its platform list to include the Nintendo Switch 2, igniting speculation about an accompanying PS4 release.
Resident Evil Requiem was first unveiled at Summer Game Fest 2025 as the ninth mainline installment in Capcom’s iconic survival horror franchise. Following that, an extended presentation at Gamescom 2025 provided additional insights into protagonist Grace Ashcroft’s backstory, intensifying anticipation among fans. Capcom has set a February 27, 2026 launch date for the game, though until now, only current-gen consoles and PC were officially confirmed.
The possibility of a PS4 port resurfaced after Capcom’s latest Nintendo Direct trailer highlighted the Switch 2 release. Notably, the trailer's copyright disclaimer included a line mentioning the “PlayStation 4 logo,” sparking renewed interest in the potential older console version. Credible Capcom insider Dusk Golem corroborated these observations, noting in a series of tweets that while the logo mention might be licensing-related, his sources indicate a PS4 version is indeed planned.
Questions remain as to whether the PS4 release will coincide with the February launch or arrive at a later date. Nevertheless, the move aligns with Capcom’s acknowledgment of the PS5’s affordability barrier, making a PS4 release a practical approach to reach tens of millions of existing console owners who are eager to play the latest Resident Evil entry. While the idea of a AAA 2026 title appearing on 12-year-old hardware may seem unusual, it reflects Capcom’s strategy to maximize accessibility and ensure the game reaches as many fans as possible.
