Heart Machine, the acclaimed Los Angeles-based studio behind Hyper Light Drifter and Solar Ash, has officially confirmed the release date of its newest project. The upcoming side-scrolling action platformer Possessor(s) will debut on November 11, 2025, arriving simultaneously on PlayStation 5 and PC. Published by indie powerhouse Devolver Digital, this marks the first collaboration between the two well-known studios.

Previously teased with only a broad 2025 launch window, Possessor(s) now has a firm date backed by a brand-new three-minute trailer. The video showcases the game’s distinct style and gameplay, highlighting a range of unconventional weapons such as an electrified guitar capable of unleashing shockwaves, a hockey stick for sweeping strikes, and multiple combat abilities that allow counters, aerial combos, and gap-closing maneuvers.

A New Direction for Heart Machine
Although Heart Machine is best known for its top-down and 3D action titles, Possessor(s) marks its first venture into side-scrolling gameplay. Despite the change in perspective, the game retains the studio’s signature emphasis on fast-paced combat and precision-based mechanics. The design leans heavily into metroidvania-inspired environments without being labeled a traditional metroidvania, offering players stylish platforming sequences paired with combat that rewards reflexes and mastery.

What makes Possessor(s) particularly unique compared to Heart Machine’s past efforts is its darker tone and horror-inspired aesthetic. The verticality of its levels—complete with aerial juggling, wall-running, and acrobatic traversal—adds depth to exploration and combat, setting it apart from the more expansive, roguelite approach of Hyper Light Breaker, which is still in early access. Fans of Hyper Light Drifter will likely find familiar DNA here, though distilled into a tighter, more narrative-driven single-player experience.

Digital-Only Release With Strong Community Anticipation
At launch, Possessor(s) will be available exclusively in digital format, with no physical edition confirmed. It is currently open for wishlisting on both Steam and the PlayStation Store. Pricing details remain unannounced, though based on Heart Machine’s previous releases, the title is expected to land in the $30 range.

For a studio that has consistently pushed creative boundaries, Possessor(s) represents both a departure and an evolution. By blending horror influences, unique weaponry, and the studio’s trademark energetic combat, Heart Machine aims to deliver one of the most striking indie releases of late 2025.
