Konami has officially confirmed that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the highly anticipated remake of the legendary PlayStation 2 classic, has already surpassed one million sales on its first day of release. Despite questions surrounding the absence of series creator Hideo Kojima, early figures suggest that the beloved franchise remains as strong as ever.

The announcement came via a September 5 post from Konami UK, revealing that the game crossed the million mark on August 28, the same day it launched worldwide for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. This milestone underscores the enduring popularity of the Metal Gear Solid brand, which continues to thrive decades after its original debut.

A High-Stakes Remake

When Konami first unveiled Metal Gear Solid Delta in 2023, fans were both excited and cautious. The game had enormous expectations to live up to, considering Snake Eater is widely regarded as one of the greatest stealth-action titles ever made. Many players worried that Kojima’s absence would strip the remake of its original spirit. However, early reviews and impressive sales figures suggest the project has managed to find its footing without him.

Leading up to launch, Konami kept details tightly under wraps, only ramping up marketing in late 2024 and early 2025. That strategy appears to have paid off, as the remake’s release quickly became one of the biggest talking points in the gaming world.

Sales and Player Reactions

Although initial Steam numbers showed a more modest start — with around 19,600 concurrent players on day one compared to Metal Gear Solid V’s massive 91,000 peak — the sales data indicates that console players drove the bulk of purchases. This aligns with the series’ strong console legacy, even amid mixed reports of performance issues on the PS5 Pro.

Critically, the remake has been well-received. Metal Gear Solid Delta currently holds an 86 Metacritic score, only a few points shy of the original Snake Eater’s legendary 91 rating. While not a perfect match, these reviews suggest that Konami successfully delivered an experience faithful to the spirit of the classic, while still modernizing visuals and gameplay for today’s audience.

A Strong Start Despite Controversy

Not everything has been smooth sailing. Some fans have expressed frustration over the Collector’s Edition pricing and performance concerns on certain hardware. Even so, the early commercial success paints a clear picture: players still have immense trust in the Metal Gear name.

For Konami, these sales figures serve as an important milestone, proving that the franchise can continue to succeed in the post-Kojima era. If momentum continues, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater could become one of the most successful remakes in recent memory, cementing its place as both a celebration of the past and a signal of the series’ future potential.
