The latest update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, known as Season 5 Reloaded, is creating a frustrating problem for many players. While the patch introduces new content across both Black Ops 6 and Warzone, reports are surfacing that the update is deleting the game entirely from some systems, forcing players to redownload nearly 100 GB of data.
This issue seems to be particularly affecting PlayStation 5 users, many of whom have taken to forums and social media to express their frustration. According to early reports, the problem stems from Activision’s effort to reorganize game files and significantly reduce overall file size. While this restructuring means the final installation will only take up around 27 GB of space on consoles, the transition requires players to completely reinstall core packs — an unwelcome task for anyone with slower internet speeds.
Despite the inconvenience, Activision has confirmed that the update’s purpose is not only to cut down on Call of Duty’s notoriously large file size but also to prepare the groundwork for the upcoming Black Ops 7 open beta. The publisher has promised compensation for affected players in the form of a 2XP Token Pack, available across all platforms. By downloading the Season 5 Reloaded update and logging into the game between September 4 and October 1, players will automatically receive:
-
Five 1-hour Double Player XP tokens
-
Five 1-hour Double Weapon XP tokens
-
Five 1-hour Double Battle Pass XP tokens
For players still invested in Season 5 content, there is plenty to enjoy beyond the technical hiccups. Warzone’s map update has opened the doors of Stadium, allowing full access to its interior for the first time, alongside a new limited-time event called Deadline. Black Ops 6 multiplayer fans are also getting fresh content, including a new 6v6 map, a brand-new scorestreak, and several returning and experimental game modes to keep the meta lively.
Looking ahead, the much-anticipated Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will launch on November 14, 2025, across PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Players who pre-ordered will gain early access to the open beta starting October 2, with all other players gaining access on October 5.
While the file reinstallation process is undoubtedly frustrating for those forced to download such a massive chunk of data, the long-term payoff should be a more optimized experience for both Black Ops 6 and the upcoming Black Ops 7.
