Bloober Team, the Polish studio known for its mastery of the horror genre, has shed new light on the future of its latest project, Cronos: The New Dawn. The survival horror title, which officially launched on September 5, appears to be more than just a one-off experiment. Based on the developer’s recent comments, Cronos may be the start of a long-term intellectual property (IP) that will continue to grow in the years ahead.
The studio, backed by Tencent, has built a strong reputation with projects such as the Layers of Fear series and its highly anticipated Silent Hill 2 remake. While the partnership with Konami has been a major focus, Bloober Team has repeatedly shown its ability to create original and impactful horror experiences. With Cronos: The New Dawn now added to its lineup, the developer seems determined to turn the game into a recognizable brand that could stand alongside its other achievements.
During a recent investor Q&A (via Stockwatch), Bloober Team confirmed that, while the development team is currently working on a different project, the studio “definitely” intends to return to the Cronos IP and expand it “across many areas of exploitation.” Though this phrase leaves room for interpretation, it suggests potential for sequels, spin-offs, or even adaptations into other media.
When asked about additional content, the company explained that no downloadable content (DLC) is currently in development for Cronos: The New Dawn, but the possibility remains open for the future. Interestingly, the studio also teased the idea of cross-promotional activities between Silent Hill 2 and Cronos, a move that could expose both franchises to wider audiences. On top of that, Bloober Team confirmed that new marketing initiatives for Cronos are in discussion, including themed promotions for the upcoming Halloween season.
Financially, Bloober Team expressed strong confidence in Cronos’s future. The studio called the game’s launch “a huge success” and predicted “significant profits” over time. Notably, console sales for the game are outperforming its PC sales, with Steam accounting for only about 25% of total copies sold. The studio did not disclose sales from other PC platforms such as Epic Games Store and GOG, though this suggests that overall PC performance may be even smaller compared to consoles.
For fans who enjoyed the tension-filled survival mechanics and horror atmosphere of Cronos: The New Dawn, Bloober Team’s outlook is highly promising. While the developers cautioned that it may take some time before the next Cronos-related project is officially unveiled—given their ongoing commitments elsewhere—the intention to grow Cronos into a long-term franchise is now clear.
If Bloober Team follows through, Cronos may evolve into much more than a standalone survival horror game. With its critical success, commercial performance, and strong potential for cross-promotions, Cronos could well become a permanent part of Bloober Team’s expanding horror portfolio.
